Souleymane Diawara is a Senegalese footballer who plays as a central defender for Olympique Marseille and the Senegal national team.

Diawara began his career at Havre AC first two seasons in Ligue 1 before the club was relegated. It remains to Le Havre until 2003, before signing the FC Sochaux.

November 19, 2002, he made his debut with the Senegalese national team against South Africa in a friendly match.

In 2006, he was transferred to Charlton Athletic. The following year he joined the Bordeaux to strengthen the central defense with Marc Planus. Diawara was dropped from the Senegal squad in August 2006, ahead of their friendly with Côte d'Ivoire, due to a breach of discipline.


In July 2009, he signed a contract for four years for the Olympique Marseille, the transfer amount is estimated at 7 million euros.

On 8 August, he participated in his first game for his new cons Grenoble as the holder (2-0).

On April 23, 2011, Marseille won for the second consecutive year the League Cup. Souleymane Diawara thereby becomes the player holding the record for League Cup won with four trophies.
