Inkoom began his career by Sekondi Hasaacas, here stayed 2007 in the Premiership All Star team and moved on 1 January 2008 to Asante Kotoko and was linked in summer 2008 with a move to Barcelona FC.

On 26 April 2009 he moved for $700,000 from Kumasi Asante Kotoko to FC Basel in the Swiss Super League on a three-year contract. He made his Basel debut in a 2-0 defeat to FC St. Gallen on July 12, 2009, at the AFG Arena.

International

The right defender is member of the Black Satellites, he played with the team at 2009 African Youth Championship in Rwanda, he was with the Black Starlets the Championship Winner. Inkoom played his first game for the senior side Black Stars on 20 November 2008 against Tunisia. He got his first chance with Ghana's squad for the South Africa 2010 qualifier against Benin on 28 March which they won 1-0.

Inkoom formerly was member of the Black Starlets, he was in the extended squad for the 2005 FIFA U-17 World Championship in Peru, he was not nominated for the tournament. After that, Samuel Inkoom aided Ghana in winning the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup by holding Brazil to a 0-0 score for 120' and then when the game went into a penalty shootout, Inkoom took the second one for Ghana and scored giving Ghana the victory.
