Biographical Information

Dr. Attahiru Jega was born in Jega, Nigeria.

Dr. Jega is a renowned polticial scientist and author . He completed his graduate studies, an MA and Ph.D in political science, at Mid-Western University (USA). His undergraduate degree was completed at Ahmadu Bello University in Zaira,Nigeria.

After completing his studies, Jega joined Bayero University,Kano. There, he served as a professor in the polticial science department. Jega also later was appointd to Vice Chancellor.

Jega's work also includes being involved in several acadmic groups including the Centre for Research and Documentation and the Nigeria Research Group, of which is he is also a founding member.

Jega also held the position of the President for the Academic Staff Union of Universities from 1988 to 1994.

Jega was appointed as the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission  (INEC) in June 2010. As the head of this organization, he is committed to overseeing a free and fair election for Nigeria in 2011.
