"Janeth Jepkosgei will make her Olympic debut for Kenya this summer in Beijing, where she figures to contend for the gold medal in the women's 800m. Jepkosgei will attempt to become the first Kenyan woman to win a middle-distance gold medal at the Games.Jepkosgei made Kenyan history at the 2007 world Championships in Osaka, where she won gold in the 800m, becoming the first female Kenyan middle-distance runner to do so. She led the race from start to finish, and won with a time of 1 minute, 56.04 seconds, beating the Kenyan record and world leading time of 1:56.18 she ran in the qualifying heats two days earlier.
