Born in Accra, December 3rd, 1982, Michael Essien started play at Liberty FC in Accra as a young talented. he was part of the under 17 Ghana national team during the world cup in 99 before joining the french club of Bastia. He moved for Lyon after 3 years spend at Bastia in 2003. Since 2005, he is the most expensive african player with his record transfer fees of 38 millions of euros.
he was in part of the best eleven of the last african nations cup in Ghana and scored 3 goals during the tournament. Strong, technical, he is blessed with a good shoot in the field , he is like the heart of the team because of running so many kilometers during the game.
