Monsieur Lumumba's fate captures the risks, intrigues and insincerities that characterised the Independence era for Sub Saharan African countries. The role of the various 'foreign' secret service agents to exploit the fragile cohesion of African communities at this time (in a quest for an economic and political ideological supremacy) is telling. Today's African Leadership scholars (and the likes of the Mo Ibrahim Foundation) need to inspire a recognition of the honor such nationalists like Lumumba, Nkrumah, Azikiwe, Kaunda, Nyerere, etc. deserve, in African history.
