Benga musician Eric Wainaina is an internationally renowned musician who first hit the music scene in the 1990s performing with a gospel group. His career took off after the 2001 launch of his debut solo album Sawa Sawa in 2001. His campaign against corruption in Kenya led him to being named one of the top 100 Africans of the year for 2000. Wainaina's music is a blend of Kenyan Benga rhythm and East African guitars, with some modern harmony.
