Vicente's neighbourhoods prepare well in advance for each annual carnival.  The Cape Verdean capital Praia is always competing with Sao Vicente's festivities Monday and Tuesday nights in February.  But this area attracts international tourists around Ash Wednesday, with a  Brazilian-influenced celebration.
