George Weah was born in Monrovia.
Weah began his football career after high school. In 1988, he was moved to Europe.There, he played for several clubs teams including Chelsea, AC Milan and AS Monaco. Weah played football for 14 years. Weah's talent made him a favorite among fans and critics. In 1995, he was awarded Fifa Player of the Year, European Footballer of the Year and African Footballer of the Year - a first for an African player.
Weah is also an active humanitarian. He serves as the head of the George Weah Children's Foundation, an organization dedicated to improving the lives of children in Liberia. He also heads the President of Junior Professionals, a program started to encourage young people to stay in school. In addition to his personal campaigns, Weah has been recognized as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador
In 2004, Weah began his political career by announcing his bid for Liberia's 2005 presidental elections. He lost the election to Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf.
Weah has announced his bid to run for Liberia's presidental elections (set to take place in 2011) . He will run as a candidate for the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC).
