Career

Born in Accra, Ghana, Tagoe became top scorer in the Ghana Telecom Premier League in the 2004/05 season. In January 2006, a transfer from his Ghanaian club Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club to the German Bundesliga team 1. FSV Mainz 05 failed because the former team did not release him in time. Instead he transferred to the Saudi-Arabian club Al Ittihad.

Hoffenheim

On 9 June 2009, Tagoe signed a three year contract with the Bundesliga side TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, although he was released from his contract on 1 August 2009 after only 51 days due to heart issues.

Tagoe's lawyer contested the dismissal as a second opinion did not yield evidence of a heart condition. On 20 August 2009, Tagoe was re-signed to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim after an announcement that his earlier release had contravened FIFA regulations.

Tagoe was originally unable to play in the Bundesliga as his playing license was revoked when it was revealed that the original documentation of his physical examinations had been faked.

As a result of the falsification of the data, Deutsche Fussball Liga requested further medical examinations in order to assess Tagoe's fitness. On 21 October 2009 the Deutsche Fussball Liga announced the health issue was not significant enough to warrant the cancellation of his contract and that the player could be in a position to have is license reinstated pending the results of a final test in December 2009.

This medical test showed that he was fit and had a non cardiac defect. On 11 January 2010, Tagoe had his playing licence reinstated and is now eligible to play for his club TSG 1899 Hoffenheim.

International career

Tagoe was surprisingly called to the national squad for the 2006 African Cup of Nations by the coach Ratomir Dujković. He only played a total of 49 minutes; his team did not make it into the quarter finals.
