Description of Work:
Amos Kimunya was appointed as Minister of Lands and Settlement by President Kibaki when the National Rainbow Coalition (NARC) won the general elections in 2002. He had been elected as Member of Parliament for Kipipiri Constituency.

In 2006,President Kibaki appointed him as Minister of Finance after David Mwiraria resigned in order to pave the way for investigation into the Anglo Leasing Scandal. He remained Finance Minister in Kibaki's Cabinet in January of 2008 following the December 2007 elections. Kimunya retained his post in the Grand Coalition Cabinet named in April 2008 after Kibaki and Raila Odinga reached a power-sharing agreement.

On July 2,2008,he lost a parliamentary vote of no confidence based on concerns about his involvement in the sale of the Grand Regency Hotel. Despite public pressure for his resignation,Kimunya asserted that he would remain in office and not succumb to the pressure. However,on 8th July,2008, Amos Kimunya resigned from his post as Minister of Finance to allow for an independent commission to investigate into his alleged role in the sale of the Grand Regency Hotel.
Amos Kimunya was born in Kiambu and then moved to the Nyandarua District in Kenya.
He obtained his Bachelor's degree in Commerce (Accounting)from the University of Nairobi,Kenya. He is also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA, K) and a Certified Public Secretary (CPS, K). He has also served as Chairperson of ICPAK which is Kenya's national body of Certified Public Accountants.
