This is a harrowing, disturbing book about the experience of one immigrant woman from Germany, sent to help populate the newly acquired colony of South-West Africa.  As a laborer, sex slave and fugitive, Hanna, the protaganist, lives a life in striking contrast to those of other novels depicting the lives of women in the colonial era in Africa such as Out of Africa and I Dreamed of Africa.  But like those books, the imagery in this one is vivid, striking, and unforgetable.  Reading it will be an experience not soon forgotten, but know what you're getting into first.
