The modern structure is a widely recognized symbol of African independence and the euphoria that accompanied it. Inside, the UN Economic Commission for Africa holds many meetings. The huge stained glass windows were created by a famous Ethiopian artist, and portray hardship throughout African history. The thermal waters of the Filwoha springs are just to the west of the Africa Hall. They supposedly motivated the Queen Taytu to ask her husband to establish Addis Ababa as a new capital
Across from Africa Hall, a natural amphitheater is the location of parades held every September to celebrate the 1974 revolution.
